Qian ZHOU

Violinist Qian ZHOU was born in China. In addition to her concert career, she is internationally known for her recordings and educational activities. After her spectacular success at the prestigious Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud Competition, where she won the First Grand Prize and all five main prizes, she is in demand as a soloist and has performed with orchestras in Europe, the US, Asia and Africa.

Qian Zhou has played successfully with many internationally known orchestras, including the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, China National Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchester Philharmonique de Radio France, the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, Limburg Symphony Orkest, Or-chestre national d’Ile-de-France, New Philharmonic Orchestra Japan, Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, Or-chestra Sinfonica di Roma, Russian Philharmonic Orchestra, Spanish National Orchestra, Singapore Symphonic Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Taipei Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Chamber Orchestra. As a soloist, she has performed in Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Royal Festival Hall, the Suntory Hall in Tokyo and the Vienna Konzerthaus.

Qian Zhou has recorded a total of ten CDs for Naxos, Hugo and Hungaraton. Her interpretation of the Beethoven concerto was praised by Henry Roth in the “Strad” as “technically perfect”: “covered with a wonderfully focused sound, a vibrato that covers the entire color palette and a long understanding of time, complemented by an extremely sensitive one Nuancing. “In 2003, Qian Zhou became head of the newly formed string section at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore. She is currently Chair of the Artists Committee and the Singapore International Violin Competition Jury and Artistic Director of the Singapore Violin Festival. She plays on a violin by G. B.Guadagnini from 1757, a loan from the estate of Rin Kei Mei.
