After the unexpected passing of Prof. Petru Munteanu, the organizational team has, with a heavy heart, decided to cancel the 2024 masterclass.

We ask for your understanding and are hopeful that the masterclass will be offered again in the future.

The master classes were founded in 1986 by Prof. Petru Munteanu and have been held regularly in the summer ever since. In a short time, they have acquired an exemplary international reputation. Lectures on methodological and pedagogical topics usefully complement the artistic and instrumental work. The course concludes with annual concerts in which the participants gain important podium experience. In 1988, a violin competition was launched in conjunction with the master class. It is open to young people up to the age of 21 (in 3 age groups: up to 15, up to 18 and up to 21). The 20th International Violin Competition will take place from August 22 to September 01, 2024 in Kloster Schöntal.

Course regulations

Participants are free to choose their own repertoire. The prepared works should generally correspond to the level of difficulty of a solo sonata or suite by Bach, a classical, romantic or contemporary work. The course is also open to talented children and young people. The course offer includes individual lessons (4-5 hours incl. orchestral studies), audition training, workshops and lectures. Chamber music lessons are possible by arrangement. The best performances are presented in several internal auditions and public concerts in Schöntal Monastery.
